Believe me it would be a bad idea to ask her out at anytime. I don't even care if your friend said it would be ok. In the long run it will just cause an awkward situation between you and your friend. Your friend wouldn't look at you the same way anymore. You may not even stay friends for very much longer if you did. So in my opinion that wouldn't be a good thing. On the other hand if you don't want to be friends with him anymore then I guess she's yours for the taking.

first find out if she is interested. then weigh it all out. you have to decide if your friendship is worth risking over a girl. she may be great but true friendship is a rare find. don't act right away they may get back together.
