Well I can tell you that I try to be an informed voter and am dismayed at the two choices for the upcoming senate election. They both suck, so now what do I do?

Not everyone votes to have that official re-elected. It doesn't matter if you vote for the party or the person. You may like something about the issues that the opposing party is saying and you vote for them but you have to remember that you are not the only one voting. I never voted for Bush. I didn't like everything that Kerry had to say but I voted for him anyway. To me he was the better choice. If I could have written in Mickey Mouse I would have because personally I believe Mickey Mouse would have done a better job. Politicians can promise you the world and never follow through with anything. A person running for president can tell you he is going to cut taxes but it isn't up to him it is up the congress whether or not to pass a bill or not. Yes he can veto it but most of the time they don't. This country needs to find one way to vote be it electronically, the punch card system or what have you. This way there is no question as to whether it was a set up or not. I feel they should go back to the popular vote rather than using the electoral college. I mean why do we even vote if the electoral college is going to make up their minds anyway. We have the freedom to vote who we want to have to represent us and yes more people should speak out and let their elected officials know what is working and what isn't but do they listen? Most of the time no. Our President has promised to bring in jobs into this country. The only problem is, the jobs that he is bringing in can not even support a mouse let alone a family. Minimum wage paying jobs just do not cut it anymore. We need jobs that pay a livable wage. So it isn't the political ads people are believing we just have a "why bother attitude nothing is going to change anyway" It will only change if EVERYONE stood up and did something about it. One person can talk 'til they are blue in the face and that elected official is just going to turn a tin ear. It isn't being lazy or stupid it is why bother. I hope this answers your question.

It is not possible to know who a good candidate is, if by good you mean someone who gives a damn about anything other than themselves.
The are plenty of good political candidates, if by good you mean someone backed by a ton of money and spin-meisters who have a reasonable chance to win.
And, despite the campaign ads, the difference between the two parties is practically zero, politically – it is just that Republicans are selfish greedy thieves and Democrats are greedy selfish goobers.
Our current problems really are not the result of Bush or Dean, they are the result of one party controlling both the executive and legislative branches. Then, personal and political greed and selfishness dominate every aspect of American policy.
The only thing that works is political gridlock – when one party controls the White House and the other Congress. That’s why things were great the last half of Clinton’s tenure, and that’s why it has been all downhill since 2000.
The fact is, 9/11 happened because the Republicans were busy stuffing their pockets. It was not malicious on their part, there simply was no power in another branch of government to stop them. And, if the Democrats controlled both branches it would have been the same. If the Democrats had controlled Congress, the neocons (who really are just dilettante political mad-scientists [except stupid]) would not have been able to control Bush’s mind and feed it with their ignorant ideas and plans.
The way to make things better for America is to give Democrats control of Congress. Not because they are Democrats, but just because the are NOT Republicans. If the government does not do anything, then it cannot screw-up anything. And that is the best we can hope for.

Many voters buy into the PR campaign blitzes that occur right before the elections. The best candidates do not always win...the ones with the best PR win. After the elections are over, politicians go back to being themselves (until right before the next election when they crank up their PR machines).

Because they get deceived by the officials at the time of election by their false promises. The officials creates scenes in such a manner that voters get believe and caste their votes in favour of officials and re - elect them. Best illustration is George W Bush get re-elected, by adopting deceiving tactices.

I would think people do go out to vote and people do genuinely want change but I personally believe that elections are rigged.

1. Not everyone votes.
2. Not everyone who does vote votes for the incumbent.
3. Not everyone complains.
4. Most people who complain complain about politicians for other districts.
In short, most people don't complain about the people they vote for.
