Do you really have to - I mean do I have to come out and say I am straight? That is considered "normal", but very soon, I honestly believe, we will be in the minority. So just get it in to your head, that probably everyone knows anyway - surely this is for your nearest and dearest. Just say "I am a practising homosexual or at least would like to be" and off you go. I don't want to know any body's sexual orientation just get bloody on with it and life.

Congratulations on feeling strong enough to come out. Take it slowly you know no full page in the Times. First talk to your Mum when there is just the two of you ask for her feeling on how the rest of the family will react. Then your best friend it`s amzing how it will roll out. There will be some who are homophobic just as there are racists and religious bigots but you will have to live with that. You might be surprised how many already have an inkling. Good luck and be proud of who you are. Come back here sometime and let us know if we were right or not.

That is an interesting question. Why do you feel that you have the need to "come out"? A person's sexual preference is a personal thing. It is shared between 2 people that care about each other. I think that this coming out thing has become a mockery of ones individual sexual preference. You should be able to be who you are and be proud of it. I just think that this is your business and no one Else's. What next???

I dont know if there is a "best way". You will know when the time is right. Trust me, speaking from experience, you will be a much happier person when you finally do. If people can't accept you for who you are, are they really worth it?

Timing is everything. Avoid holidays or other stressful events. Best time would be when your family is proud of you. If not wait until they really want to spend time with you.

Just remember that it might come as a shock to them so don't hold anything they might say against them.

Well, when my nephew 'came out', he told his Mum first. She told everyone else except Granny. Another Auntie told Granny, Granny's response, "I've known that for years".
