If you knew it was going to work......and you would be with the one you truly loved and they loved you in return ..........how long would you wait for them to sort thru their leftover baggage from their previous relationship? Especially if you know there is a child involved from their past relationship.........

I have this theory....If in two years it's not getting any better then get out while you can.
Two years is a long enough time to know what you want either way, and if you do need to leave then not too much time has passed where it'll take you forever to get over it.....
I hope things work out for you....
good luck ! ! ! !

Not long at all. I think if you are free and single you are ready... I was in a relationship for about 15 years. I thought we did pretty good. I didn't leave. But everyone around me said that I should have. I was abused physically by the gentleman that I was with. I stayed for the reason, he had had open heart surgeries throughout this relationship. I was not allow to talk to anyone except him. If I went to the store with him, I was to walk 3 ft. behind him.

I wouldn't wait one minute unless the relationship was moving in a positive direction every single day. Like a ratchet movement, one thing done towards your future daily. Not just words but proof in doing. If the other person is not willing to do that I wouldn't waste my time. All the best to you.

I would give it 2 years, if they are not ready to at least make SOME progress in your relationship by then than I would say you are wasting your time. good luck
