Mohammed married a girl called Aisha when she was six, and consumated said marriage when she was nine. This is on the authority of the Haddiths. Any who deny this deny Islam.

Well in Britain the age of consent is 16. Alot of Muslim Women aim to be married a short time after they finish studying at University.

Probabley at a ridiculously young age, before the child is fully grown or hit puberty (as "devout muslim" quoted herself-see comments!).

I would presume its this young because firstly, the child is reliant upon their family and parents as role models (as children are more likely to believe their parents when they are children, rather than when they are young adults and have views of their owns) which is more likely why they will "consent" to the marriage.

And secondly, its far easier to brainwash a child which such ridiculous "religious" beliefs.

Then again women are seen as second class citizens, so muslim men can do as they please.

What a sad existence.

At any age Muhammed was not that bothered when he married Aiasha, his best friends daughter, at least he waited till she was 9 to consumate the marraige.
Would you be happy to let a 40 year old man have sex with your 9 year old daughter? I THINK NOT!

A fact that the Muslims forget!

She has to be old enough to understand. If her parents arrange a marriage for her before she is old enough to understand and agree to it, she is entitled to later refuse, and it is no penalty on her - though her family may try to pressure her into accepting it. (They are wrong.) In order for a marriage to occur, both parties must consent to it. A guardian may consent on behalf of the girl, or on behalf of the boy for that matter, but it is only a conditional consent, and the girl or boy may revoke it after reaching an age of discernment. Of course, marriages are not supposed to be consumated until the age of puberty, which varies widely but is typically between 9 and 15 for girls.
