Wicked is great. The musical makes one look at the current administration in a different way. There are definant politcal overtones in the musical. They book shows how we label people as outcasts or different. Everyone loves a story where we can root for the underdog.

Definitely the musical, hands down. The book is dark and hard to follow and almost turns into a trashy romance novel at some points. I think the only reason I got through the book is that I was already familiar with the music from the show and kept waiting for certain parts to happen...which never do in the book. Tho the plot to the musical might be hard to follow - the Wizard/Animals vs. animals connection isn't crystal clear in the play, the message of friendship in it makes it far superior in my opinion. Or in my "humble Oh-pinion" I should say. *wink, wink* I think the twists that tie it (the play) to the Wonderful Wizard of Oz are great (if they may be a bit corny) additions that really allow anyone to connect with the play and with something nearly everyone adores as a child - the 1939 Wizard of oz.

Quote from the New York Times, "Finally! A musical that will liven up Broadway for a long time coming!" - that pretty much sums it up in one phrase. The book is pretty much a political sattire on the Bush administration, but you've got to have to be a good reader to see through the thick plot and find that. Good book, though. And the musical is FAMAZING in a word.

Absolutely AMAZING...
I loved it, although when I saw it, I didn't see it with the original cast, and I liked the music in THAT better than the music on the soundtrack, which uses the original cast. It was phenomenal, though. My favorite Broadway play. I want to see it again.

And if you care to find me ... look to the western sky.
The musical is awesome.
The book just tripped me out -- I wanted it to carry the same emotional weight as the show and it didn't. That's not to say I didn't enjoy the book because it was a good and strange story.

I love it! I was once in the play (Glinda) and I was also in the play as Nessa. I have read the book many times and I am having lunch with Idina Menzel this weekend! You don't know who I am, but at the same time, you probably have seen me in a play or two!
