If you go back and check the history of American football it was at one time much like Australian rules football. The rules have changes over the years. All the best baseball players want to come and play in America. The American leagues are the best in the world with the best players in the world.

It dates back to the middle of the XIX Century when sports contests rarely got out of the local papers. As for baseball, the name "World Series" got started when the game was played almost entirely in America, which therefore was the "world" of discourse. When European football spread to the US, the papers had to make up a name to keep it from being confused with the kind of "football" which was already played here.

"Football" was originally a word to described all sports played 'on foot' (ie by peasants) as opposed to those sports played by the gentry, which were generally conducted on horseback.

"Soccer" is actually an English word (see first link below), and is the more accurate designation for Association Football, which is the game you are referring to. (It's from a corruption and abbreviation of 'association'. And if you really think the word "soccer" is only used by Americans, you don't get out much, do you? LOL)

football does actually involve kicking a ball at some points with your foot.

and the world series is actually canada too. there are so many stupid things in EVERY country. Most of these things were created so long ago we have nothing to do with why its the way it is.

the british actually brought the idea over.... this is from wikipedia

Both American football and soccer have their origins in varieties of football played in the United Kingdom in the mid-19th century, and American football is directly descended from rugby football.

Rugby was first introduced to North America in Canada, brought by the British Army garrison in Montreal which played a series of games with McGill University. (See Comparison of American football and rugby union and Comparison of American football and rugby league.)

Both Canadian and American football evolved from this point. For an in-depth overview of the differences and similarities of Canadian football and American football see: Comparison of Canadian and American football.

American football in its current form grew out of a series of three games between Harvard University and McGill University of Montreal in 1874. McGill played rugby football while Harvard played the Boston Game, which was closer to soccer. As often happened in those days of far from universal rules, the teams alternated rules so that both would have a fair chance. The Harvard players liked having the opportunity to run with the ball, and in 1875 persuaded Yale University to adopt rugby rules for their annual game. In 1876 Yale, Harvard, Princeton, and Columbia formed the Intercollegiate Football Association, which used the rugby code, except for a slight difference in scoring.

The English who initially coined the time period football, a slang for association football. Canadians, Australians, New Zealand and South Africans also call it that. there's a interest already said as football so why confuse human beings. that's a similar interest does it truly count number. ultimately i imagine i'd make sense no longer to apply stereotypes even as speaking about human beings. that's the desirable interest, do not argue about the call.

America is considered the center of the universe (by Americans). So we can say and do anything we want regardless of what happens in the rest of the world, we are a world amongst ourselves. If you lived here it would make perfect sense. You must understand that America is much bigger than a single European Country and we are more isolated (regarding have neighboring countries) than you, so that is why, it is just circumstantial.

Well... I suggest having Real Madrid come over and challenge the Dallas Cowboys to a game of full-contact soccer to decide it.

World Series is self-explanatory... NO other country can touch Major League baseball. End of story.

It should be obvious most Americans consider NYC and LA as the centers of the world - everything else is just a suburb. Especially Europe.

Why do Americans call soccer (a sport played with foot) "soccer" while calling football (a sport played with the hands) "football"?
