I just wanted to ask how numb do you become after having antidepressants like zoloft? like will my personality change or will I seem to people like I don't give a **** ? especially to my girl friend?
About roughly a year ago a doctor told me that I should start on zoloft but I didn't... I freaked out because I will have to take it for like 4 - 5 months. But now I am having problems, my girl friend of 4 years says she has had a crappy last year because i fight too much on small things and i know i am obsessive because all I think all day long is why is she not calling me.. when will she call me.. what if she doesn't call and stuff like that. Also I have anxiety problems.
i just wanted to ask some one about this. I cant discuss this with my gf because then she would say I am like her father and she doesn't want to stay with someone like that.. although I am not.
and will i be happy more often?
I would prefer answers from people who have had antidepressants.

The treatment of mental disorders is a personal trial and error process. Just because one person has severe headaches when they use Zoloft doesn't necessarily mean that if you take Zoloft YOU will have headaches too. Conversely, the fact that Paxil didn't work at all for one member does not mean that Paxil cannot be your success story. Your wonder drug or combination of, will be discovered totally independent of what may or may not work for another individual. If one drug was the answer for everyone, then there would be only one drug on the market. We all react differently to different medications and varying dosages. It may satisfy your curiousity to learn about other people's experiences, BUT this should never be the deciding factor as to what will work best for you. Sorry, it just doesn't work that way. *Depression Forums does not endorse, approve, recommend, or certify any information, specific treatment, medication, service, or professional presented or mentioned on this website.

Zoloft is a very gentle drug with very few side-effects. I have been taking it for depression for years. It's exponentially improved my life. My personality has changed in that I'm calmer and am more alert. I have been on other antidepressants that didn't work as well. Go ahead and take the Zoloft. Give it a few weeks to get in your system. It's not at all like thorazine or anything else that will zombify you. And yes, the medicine will help you to be happy more often. Good luck and I hope the Zoloft works for you.

I have suffered from major depression most of my life. I have taken many antidepressants and this how they work

All Brains Are Not the Same Each class of antidepressant works on your brain chemistry in a different way

Antidepressants are often prescribed to people suffering from depressive illness. Depressive illness is caused by a decrease of certain chemicals or neurotransmitters in the brain that are responsible for mood. Antidepressants stimulate chemical changes that increase the levels of these neurotransmitters. Three main neurotransmitters associated with mood are serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine. Different antidepressant medications affect one or more of these neurotransmitters.

Take them as prescribed don't stop taking them. You won't become dull or feel doped up the will work to make you feel normal

Zoloft is well tolerated and effective for the treatment of depression and certain types of anxiety disorders.
Zoloft is the #1 doctor-prescribed brand of its kind. Zoloft has treated more people than any other brands of its kind for 14 years. And Zoloft is available in multiple strengths, so your doctor can decide a dose for you.

hey sounds like you dont have much to lose if you do try it & it don't help.....i took zoloft before & it just made me feel less irritable & easier to overlook the small things that i used to complain about. i felt happier & not "stoned" or "out there". give it a try, i think you'll like....goodluck

Are you depressed or slightly manic? The irritability and irrational behavior could be hypomanic and need a drug not antidepressant.
