That other religions/non-religions cannot not criticize Islam without invoking violence?
Other religions, especially Christianity, are criticized on a continuous basis and they/we do NOT take to the streets with violent protests or threats of murder.
Examples: threats against the Pope for making a speech and using a quote from a historical text or the danish paper and its caricature of Muhammad.
With all the more important circumstances happening in the world today, wouldn't Muslim energies be best served correcting ills of society? For instance, taking a stance against their fellow Muslims who are enslaving and causing havoc in the Sudan or putting their foot down on Muslim extremists?
Islam is supposedly a religion of peace, so...where's the peace? It seems to be taking a back seat to violence.

You are right that peace shouldn't take a back seat to violence.
Just as peace (or considerable efforts in that direction) shouldn't take a back seat to rushing off to war.
Just as thoughtful discourse shouldn't take a backseat to reactionary speech.
All sides could do well to remember and practice this.
There has always been ignorance in the world and there still is.
Ignorance can be demonstrated by over-reaction, anger, violence, etc.
There’s plenty of instigation from all sides, with a need for all sides to practice forbearance.

He addresses ignorance, distortion, response, history, etc.,

Now let me clear one thing up...Islam is not a religion of peace.
Theres no such thing.
the word islam comes from the word 'submission' and invariably means submitting to the will of God. and anyone who does so...is a muslim
A healthy community is knowing when to fight and when to have peace. That being said, I think countries and cultures differ a lot on the stance here.
Muslims in Indonesia have customs very different than the ones we have in Turkey for example.
If there are plague bearers in any society, the leaders of the society should take care of them in the best possible way, for the greater good.
I agree with you, but you are a tad generalizing the issue me thinks. Muslims dont all live in the Middle East ^^

Forgiveness.
A Christian word, not known to Muslims and many other religions.
Most Muslims are people like you and I, they only want to live in peace and enjoy their life.
As "GOD" so eloquently put it, "the meek shall inherit the earth".
Then where will the fanatical Muslim groups go....he he he... is hell an option.
Religions are man made groupings of humans. So funny how people fight to avoid discrimination, prejudices and separatism.
Wake up, it is not the religious groups and it's leaders that make you spiritual it is your actions and beliefs. We have evolved into "RELIGIOUS GANGS".

Good question...but you can keep asking this and they'll only quote peaceful verses to you!! I mean, Mohammed wasn't so special anyways...hey, i bet i'll get some reproachful answers to saying that!!...I know...the Pope made one little sentence and it shook the whole Muslim world!! I think they should just wake up a bit and realise it's 2006...not 600AD...or whatever!!

Excuse me but not all Muslims are violent u know.You have to understand that in some cases people have to stand up for their rights.Yes I believe that violence should be the last resort but some people pushes it to far.I believe that u r being very biased and not looking at the entire picture.

i know christianity says "love God above all" so i wonder why the followers don't react when the religion is trampled upon but can go so violent when their person, spouse, friends, children, property are transgressed on.Is it that christianity teach that one should value more one's material things than that of God? I can't wonder why.

I do not marry a 6 yrs old.
I do not get my believers to stone to death those who don't believe me.
I do not tell others im a prophet and yet be unable to come up with a single prophecy nor miracle, explaining with "am i anything but a man, a messenger?".
I do not sleep with the wive of my slave.
I do not, at the age of 50 or above, tell a baby that if i were alive when she grows up i'll marry her. I WONT DO IT EVEN IF I WERE ONLY 30 YEARS OLD.
I do not tell others that "an event that happened 600 yrs was fake, i knew it, i just had to know it".
I do not tell others that killing non-believers of my faith = more rewards for them on the "ending day".
I do not tell others i believe in Jesus and yet deny his own words that he and God are one, and that he died to save us.
I do not look down on woman in any way, they can pray with us, no problem. They are the helper God made for man, definitely not in the ranks of dogs and donkey.

The Quran says they can be violent if their religion is being insulted or if they're being oppressed. But if they're being terrorists and stuff, they'll go to hell.
