Are their minds open to the views they read? And I wonder if questioners, too, give due thought to the answers they receive. Of course, some answers are pathetic in their denigrating - take note out there!

I like to see how other people answer the questions I answer. I'm interested in learning what other people have to say. They could have a few nuggets of information that would be beneficial to not only me but other people, as well. I'm going to have to say that I don't like the smart-alleck answers . . . at all . . . but that is just me.

I don't think so. May be only a few people ever take trouble to read in detail what other people have said. I personally don't. I have two reasons for this: First, I do not want to lose the originality of my own natural response to a question. It has to be spontaneous and original. If I read about the views of others than there is is possibility that I will also be responding to them to them. The second reason however is to do with normal human psychology and competitive spirit. We ignore the 'views of others' because we are not sure whether they are good and valid one or not. While we are trying to get to our best we cannot in this competitive atmosphere afford to consider the answers that we are trying to compete - to get into text is render a bit of your mind to it.

I always read them. But I research what I find and don't believe everything everybody says because there are some things where I know better. That's the whole fun of doing this. You have a multitude of different viewpoints out there and you can take a look at the spectrum. It's useless to judge others opinions but why would you not want to hear the "denigrating" ones? They may irritate you because there's something true in what they are saying!

I do read the answers of others before I answer a question because I am interested in others opinions and thoughts. It does not necessarily mean I will consider adopting these views or opinions, but I do often see things I hadn't thought of in that way before. I try not to be "judgmental" in my answers. I realize everyone is free to choose their own thoughts. Some of the answers and questions are BEGGING for a rebuttal though.

I can only speak for myself when I say that as someone without a religion I enjoy reading everyone's questions (being that they are not sarcastic or purposely insulting) and answers. This doesn't mean that I believe everything I read, but I do appreciate it. People can use this as a great learning tool, it just depends on (like you said) open-mindedness.

I have often changed my point of view to a question by reading the previous answers first - not because I'm a weak kneed, lilly-livered patsy, but because I accept what other people say (if I understand their writing) and formulate a new opinion based on those answers.
That's what I like about Answers - if you read things first you get to learn stuff!!

Yes, I read them. I have learned a lot about Buddhism here and have come to respect it more than I have in the past. I've become even more disappointed in Christianity. Too many "canned" messages and Bible quotes. Very little logic.

I generally skip answers with poor language skills unless they are obviously from people whose first language is not English. I assume they are from children.

I read the responses before I answer. Often I will thumbs up the one who says what I would have said, and just move on w/o answering it.
But my typing is slow, and I usually end up at the bottom, even though there were no answers when I started! LOL! Oh well....
Blessed Be.....
