hey!! ♥
1> Make your startup list look lighter..i mean by removing those unecessary prog/softwares by typing *msconfig* in [run/startmenu]
2> Delete all your temporary files..make it empty by ... document setting/user/local setting
3>Use Discclean utility!! in your comp.
startmenu>>prog>>acessories>>sys tool>>discclean(all driveswld be good)
4> i wldnt recommend you but....you can change the various booting event settings by* bios* and boot.ini file...but you need a professional to guide you.Else You can eventually curropt your Windows [ but still by same typing msconfig in Run you can reduce boot time in boot.ini]
5> Last but not the least!! you can keep your Primary drive as much empty as you can...coz while booting some Opr. sys checks for files in thr ...and this could lead to eating of resource(RAM physical memory)
♥Hope this wld help! ♥

When you reinstall XP the first thing you do is defrag before you put anything else on apart from the system/motherboard drivers.
Then after each permanent programme defrag again. When updates are installed clean your drive and defrag.
When you have the basic setup of your machine from the "run" command in your start menu type "msconfig" and see what programmes are in the start-up menu. Apart from anti-virus / spyware programmes you can stop (probably) all of them. These progs may take a fraction longer to load when you need them but that is all.
Also make sure that ancillary hardware such a printers and external hard drives are off. Make sure you have the most up to date graphics, audio and ethernet drivers installed.
This may seem like a lot of work but regular defragging just post installation can mean that all the most essential bits of software are more easily accessable therefore quicker.
