I know the concept of the color coding but this makes no sense.
I've read that R means the decimal point but what about A? Is that just a mfg letter? and what about A3D. Also how can you tell the value of a SMT cap? when there is no markings other than the color and i've only seen white and grey

To amania_r: SMT==Surface Mount Technology.

Maybe u have mistaken and see wrongly the R as A coz its character is about the same....try to use a mater and see the reading...as for cap the white colour means picofarad...grey means 10(8) to the power of 8

Not sure what you mean by SMT. Most multimeters measure resistance.

For the capacitor, try googling "capacitor colour codes"
