If you are a qualified doctor then your skills may be of such that you would probably get a work permit. However, you have to first get a job and it is your employer (not you) that would apply for the work permit for you. This is because you have to have a job to come to. Therefore, the best thing for you to do would be to go on to the internet and look up some hospitals that you think you might want to work in and send them your CV.
If you require a Visa too, then this is your responsibility and immigration would be able to give you information on this.

i hate to tell you this but with your background you are in the best possible country as far as earning a living. Medical rates in Europe dont even begin to compare with what you earn in the states. I know as I too am american and am now living in europe. Here there is socialized medicine an the doctors do not charge a fortune for procedures, so its my best advice to you to stay where you are and continue practicing where you are.

I have an american friend who has recently moved over here. She simply came here, got a job and stayed. Simple as that really. If you're intention is to work and practice a trade (as you obviously have mentioned in your question) it is relatively easy. Just apply for a work visa at your nearest embassy.

Just to warn you though, there are a lot of immigration "issues" going on over here at the moment - some people feel strongly that we should be closing our borders - so expect a bit of a backlash to your question. I apologise for this as an englishman...I'm sure that you'll be welcomed and made to feel at home over here by the majority of us.

Why do you want to come to the UK, shitty weather, shitty government and everything is just so expensive, they keep putting up the price of petrol, gas and electric, not to mention NI contributions and our taxes but wages stay the same... how can this be?
