I am a nurse in a mental health facitity and this is what I can tell you. As far as antidepressants go, it is the safest. Feeling sick ussually goes away in a week to ten days. if it is bad, call the doctor and start on a low dose ussually 10 mg then increase it to 20mg. If you choose to stop there will be no "withdrawl". However if you are suffering from depression I would give it a shot. Through studies they have discovered that prozac is the only drug safe enough for people under 18 yrs old. I hope this helps and good luck. My only other thing is if you cant get rid of the side effects there are other antidepressants that might work better with you body chemisty like wellbutrin or cymbalta.

Prozac is not a dangerous drug in any way. Yes, it has side effects, as have every other drug you've ever taken in your life so far and will take in the future. The most comon side effects are nausea and increased anxiety, but both of these will resolve within the first couple of weeks of taking Prozac or any other similar antidepressant.
You were prescribed this medication for a reason - most likely depression - it's up to you whether you think your depression is severe enough to put up with the side effects of any medication you may be prescribed. However, all antidepressants have side effects, most of them are very similar to the side effects of Prozac, so you're going to have to make a decision as to whether you think you can manage without medication or not.
Yes, of course you will "return to normal" after taking one tablet - you still are normal now, you're just experiencing some minor side effects. And no, you don't have to do anything to withdraw from the first tablet.
Personally, my advice would be to keep taking the medication as you were prescribed. The side effects should wear off within the first week or two, and hopefully within 6 weeks you should notice a benefit from taking it. Although Prozac has side effects, it is NOT a dangerous drug!!!

Prozac helps many people each year with their depression but, yes it does have it's side effects. Trying it is okay as long as you have a good doctor who listens to you and your concerns. I tried prozac and a few other antidepressants. You'll feel normal after you quit them. I quit mine 'cold turkey' so to speak. I had some headaches but, that's about it. The reason I quit was that the meds made me feel like depression was a lot more pleasant than being depressed and on prozac. My doctor kept upping my dosage even when I complained!! After that experience, I changed my life for the better. I decided not to be depressed. As simple as that sounds that's what you've got to do.

The answer for most ( not all) mental illnesses is exercise, listening to the Bible passively, and eating extremely healthy. No surger, no drugs (that means no Marijuana) of any kind (if possible use herbs), no coffee, ect., doing martial arts and things like tai Chi, Praying to God on a daily basis. going into nature and listening to natures sounds and just relaxing and thinking about how fortunate you are to be alive. these things are worth a try instead of putting some foreign chemical into your system. Of course it is always easier to take a pill instead of take action. That's why the drig companies make so much money. They understand human nature.

I have taken Prozac for 7 years and I could stop it successfully. It has not done any permanent damage to my body. Most of the people (including me) develop sexual dysfunction from a longterm use but it is reversible. You will become okay in 3 weeks stopping the prozac. It has saved many life, and it is one of the safest drugs people use regularly. You are taking this drug to avoid or manage a bigger problem. Believe in your doctor

Tou put it bluntly, all drugs are toxic to the body, in one way, or another. Why do you think that there are side effects for ALL drugs? Even those with minimal side effects, if you take drugs for an extended period of time, it will start to deteriorate your body systems, maybe even faster than the disease it was designed to cure. Doctors will NEVER admit this to you, but think about what I said.
