Is the KJV that great of a Bible Translation?

The KJV is out-of-date and old. Very much like reading shakespeare at times is this version. Does this accurately and loyally portray the witnesses of scripture.

The KJV is a Clementine Bible. So is the Douay.
The resources available at that time are small compared to now.

The Darby, the Young's Literal, the English Standard, and the American Standard versions are far more accurate.

Also, Bibles with the works of Westcott and Hort, two world renown and award winning Greek scholars are very accurate. The New World Translation is one of them that has their works compiled into the book.

There are probably more than 40 or 50 translations of the Bible from
original Hebrew and Greek into English. But the KJV has a special
beauty in and of itself. I can never get enough. I have several different versions, and study Bibles, but I love the KJV and use it on a daily basis.

It is lacking in some respects, like using the word "corn" when it should be "grain".

But many of the newer translations suffer from its translators being to intelligent, like in Genesis 1:1 the KJV says "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth". Many newer versions say "heavens". We know that there is today the heaven of our atmosphere, the heaven of outer space and the spiritual heaven. But in Genesis 1:1 God had created 1 heaven. Then several verses latter He separates it into 2 heavens (I am not sure when He seperated the 3rd heaven). The point is that many versions today make those types of errors. Plus the KJV has the easyest reading level.

200 or so years ago that is how people talked and it worked really well for them. But we don't talk that way any more and so it is confusing and the newer translations are more accurate because they have lots of copys to read to make sure it is accurate. Then translating scriptures was difficult and not to accurate.
Just think of how our language has changed in the last 50 years.
Take a man that died 150 years ago and he comes back and you tell him about a PC, TV, VCR, DVD or a black berry or ipod or scanner, printer or even some of the names they have for airplanes. He wouldn't have a clue what your talking about.
Language changes constantly. New words are added old ones are dropped. Everyone use to use the term ain't going.
Now that is really bad language.

The KJV is not the epitome of accuracy when it comes to Bible translations. As the name itself attests, the translators of it came up with what King James felt should be included in it. These translators no doubt were fearful of making sure nothing was included in it that would offend or cause King James to punish them. Most likely, then, some of the original wording, phrasing, and meaning of the scriptures was changed during this translating all to make King James pleased. It's not to say everything is completely different than what it should be, but there is enough that is changed to not make it as highly regarded as some people like to make it today.

My experience is with the King James. I know everyone hates the
THEEs and THOUs, but I personally have found many references to ESOTERIC knowledge in the KJV.
Esoteric knowledge is "special" knowledge that was only
taught to priviledged people. Today, it's more in the open, and
one must have esoteric knowledge to see these references.
My view is that modern translations are written so they
will be easier to understand. Therefore, anything the translaters
didn't understand, they changed. And modern versions seem
to me, to be watered down. Weakening the FULL IMPACT of
the Word.

Nothing that comes from God ever gets out of date. Dont turn to the thoughts of mortal man, but stay in the spirit and in God's word, which is in the KJV Bible. All other so called easier to understand translations are counterfits of satan, because they are straying away from the true word of God, and have gradually become the word of man.

If understanding the word of God came easily, what would a person benifit from it. But because you have to study, and reach deep inside your spirit to understand what message God is giving you,so your efforts are not in vein and will be appreciated by your own self. The bible changes people from the inside, so that we can shine on the outside.

It is a progressive transformation, that takes place from with in you as you grow closer to the Lord. Consider this to be a spiritual work out. What starts out hard, becomes easier the more you apply yourself to it. The more mature you become in your spiritual walk with the Lord, the more He will allow you to understand when you continue to read. It will become second nature, just like breathing. Stick with the KJV bible, and lelt God open up His word in His time for you. HE knows best.

Isaiah 40:8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

Don't put too much analysis into the version you're reading, concern yourself more with the message, the same message in every version, God is delivering. If you're willing and open, He'll reveal it to you.

I find that version difficult reading. I prefer a more modern English version.
