The seat is powered all the time. take a test light and see if it lights. If it lights at the plug under the seat your problem is motor and switch related. Now which one? unbolt the four seat bolts follow the power wire to the switch with the test light and operate the switch follow the switched wire to the seat motor Two way switches turn on the ground and power to move both ways. so check both sides for power and hook the end of the test light to Power and see if the ground is getting to the motor. Most the time old Z it is the switch. Smacking the motor with a hammer sometimes makes them run too.

unplug the motor under the seat and check for power if no power.ck wireing under the carpet foward or if there is power the motor is bad.did you ck L/s kick panel for fuses?Being an 88 you may find the motor bad.ther r cables that go from side to side.they used to bind up all the time in the motor ther square ends like the speeo- cables are
