Hi, from your name I guess you are Indian and I do not know if you do live in India. India is a country where the best of machines or hygenies would be found in most hospitals. However, what they lack in terms of machinery etc. they make up with the quality of the doctors as they are without doubt considered as some of the best in the world.
Stage 4 - is bad news but not a death sentence as its made out. Its your own confidence in yourself and on your doctor who will make you pull through this phase. I know it sounds like a lot of bull crap - but the best chances for survival is in India. I can vouch for that as even though I have Spanish nationality and could have gone to any country for treatment I opted to stay in India and was in stage 4. Yes, I am alive but with severe side effects - but alive.

My husband just passed away from stage 4 lung cancer, the DRS. gave him 9mo to a year. he told them I will beat your odds, he did he lived 13mo, he fought so hard, but then his kidneys shut down, he died feb 10 2006 the drs. first found the cancer jan 27 2005, the only thing I can tell you is talk to your drs. they do have a support group at the cancer center, also ,I called in hospice at the end, they were a great help. there are all kinds of chemo treatments for stage 4 there is avastin, tarveca, there are trial treatments,if you want to try them, there is rad, also if the person you are talking about has stomach problems, anzemet, it calms the stomach after chemo, and they can eat.sores in mouth, gelclair,to increase appettie megestrol.to build red blood cells hemocyte.the main thing is keep his weight up, and spirit. let person enjoy doing what they like.keep their will to live up.I met so many people that were cured, it just depends on how much body can take.my husband had lymphoma in 2003 was cured then 2005 got lung/ back cancer. so all I can say is keep the faith pray a lot, and always ask questions. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.

My father was recently diagnosed w/ Stage 4 rectal cancer------his doctors have not referred him to a hospice (as others here are suggesting....which indeed does usually indicate a 6 month time span of life expectancy).
The oncologists and radiation therapists are giving my father typical chemo and radiation therapy for his particular type of cancer. He tried his best to try to get the docs to say how long he might have to live, but NO WAY would they answer that one!!
Do not give up just cuz it is Stage 4 !!!! It has been proven many many times over that even Stage 4 cancer can be stopped from even further progression, thereby extending the patient's life expectancy.

Supportive treatments include radiation, chemo and pain medication (treat the symptoms, not the disease). Supportive care is hospice. Usually a referral to hospice is an indication of a prognosis of 6 months or less. Family and friends also provide emotional and spiritual support and encouragement during this time.

Stage 4 is NOT a death sentence, in many cases. Check with your oncology team about treatment options. Treatment varies depending on the type of cancer you are dealing with.

See How to Prevent and Treat Cancer with Natural Medicine by Mike Murray, and Beating Cancer With Nutrition by Pat Quillen. No guaranteed 'cures' here, but a ton of good info and advice to help make a person's ordeal a little more comfortable. Some people have had good results with alleviation of pain and malaise symptoms drinking monavie juice (Info on request)

Im not sure that there really is anything you can do with a stage 4 cancer patient, but if you would like information on this and what types of support to give, go to webmd, they will give you additional websites.

Most hospitals can refer you to a Hospice Unit I did in home hospice for years
the doctor can provide meds for comfort but the best thing is to let theme talk about what they want done at this time
See certain people write notes etc.Love them as long as you can.

Someone in my family had brain tumor and it was stage 4.He had to go through an operation which would scrap the tumor till its roots but because it was at its worst stage it was expected to show up in any part of the body again. He went through the typical chemotherapy and stuff. So just hang in there and pray to God that He grants health to the person who has cancer.

A hospice unit where the patient is understood and can get the medical care he needs as well as support is ideal.
