I have been seeing a good doctor for about three years for IBS and acid reflux problems. The medications have helped tremendously. The IBS hardly bothers me at all as long as I take the medicine and I have been able to reduce the medication. The acid reflux has been more manageable also, but sometimes my throat still burns at night . I have heard that the acid reflux is inheritable. Don't know if it is true or not but others in my family do have the same problem. Maybe we should both talk to our doctors. I would like to annihilate the IBS and acid reflux.

Also, recently we raised the head part of our bed by inserting two inch thick concrete blocks under two of the bed posts. The slant is barely recognizable, but helps to keep the stomach acid from
backing up into the esophagus.

I also try to watch my diet. It's tough. Caffiene is a culprit and I just love coffee. Also try to eliminate spicy foods.

This book is probably the most informative and practical guide on the subject of acid reflux and heartburn that I have ever read https://tr.im/acidrefluxremedies
I was prescribed Lansoprazole which was brilliant but after two years of aching joints, extreme muscle pain which the doc gave me cortisone jags for, with some research I discovered the drug Lansoprazole was causing these rare side effects but it was I who diagnosed it NOT my doctor, I came off the drug 2 months ago, changed my diet and discovered just eating an apple stops any acid reflux, I eat an apple before bed, brilliant no acid, any time I feel the slightest sign of reflux I simply eat an apple. Apple juice is not that good nor is anything else I have tried including honey at stopping reflux.

A simple method to fight heartburn is to drink an abundance of water. Since the burning sensation is brought on by acid, water can help dilute this acid. Instead of drinking soda with dinner, have one glass of cool water alternatively

A doctor can prescribe omeprozole or zantac to reduce the acid production in the stomach, thus reducing oesophagitis stimulation. Eat a diet high in vegetables, lay off citrus fruits and spicy food, and stick to food that is easily digested.

There is a relatively new surgical procedure. The top part of the stomach is wrapped around the esophagus, to keep acid from backing up. It is done by endoscopic surgery. Three holes are put in your chest, rather than opening up the abdomen.
