Just to let you informed, most citizens lost their jobs due to outsourcing and most dont get benefits even if they work in US companies. No difference than crop pickers. I will use my survival instincts and be a crop picker and collect welfare till I can stand on my two feet, after all I have paid my taxes and my families before me that never relied on welfare at all.

If I were an able bodied person I would take any job that would provide for myself and my family.I would not ever collect welfare. In my heritage that would be a considered a disgrace. There are many things an able bodied person can do to legally take care of his family, work two jobs,if need be but no,I would not ever take welfare benefits.
some disabled people deserve to have them, but having a bunch of kids you cant take care of is not a disability, its a choice isn't it.

Oh and you cant get much hotter than the Arizona desert, and people work outside everyday.....it gets up to 118 degrees and it may cool off at midnight to 100 degrees.A few years ago it was 123 degrees people were still working .So heat is not a deterrent to any one here that wants to work and not take welfare.

Come to North Carolina. I will work you one day "picking" crops.
You'll be standing in line the next day to collect "welfare" aid.
Don't get to HOLY and Better and MIGHTY than "Others".
95% of the people in the USA can't handle "farm labor".
You couldn't produce enough on the "plus side" for me to make a profit to pay you $6.00 hour ($9.00 hr with workers comp/ins/ss tax). The heat and physical labor would drop you like a ton of bricks.

Slave labor is still illegal by the way.

I agree with the thought but truly is more of a fantasy in USA.

Maybe not in many other Countries where work is expected and people aren't pampered.

I have four kids one has diabetes and I don't have a car so I have to take the bus ever where I go( grocery shopping, doctors office, job, when I had one, etc.) electric bills, rent, medicines, ........hell yea I would apply for welfare, ssi , a trip to the Oprah show, if it would help me and my family, until I got another job. would picking fruit pay for my bills if so then sign me up, sweetie. even though there are a lot of people out there abusing the system do you think everyone is? it's just like paying taxes you see a lot of people cheat but are you asking them questions like if you get a little more money back on your return what would you do go to Hawaii or get that new pool with the heated Jacuzzi?

Oh wait another I feel sorry for the illegals doing cheap labor. IF that was the way I had to feed my family then yes I would. I'm entitled to welfare and all the rest since I'm legal.

Find another job.
If needs dictate, collect welfare (it's the state's respo anyway).
If all else fails, work for cheap labour, join or form a union and make your labor count more and not be treated like slavery!

Just a thought.

I would pick the crops because at least I could keep my dignity. Being on welfare pays the bills and puts food on the table but you lose your self respect.

Have picked most kinds of fruit & vegetables in my lifetime, not too proud to do so again if necessary. Too proud to even walk up to the door of the place where you go to get "welfare". Would rather eat out of dumpsters.

Neither. I have education and job skills that would allow me a few more choices than that.

But I will say that I think I would never apply for welfare, no matter what.
