You need to look for an exterior gloss. Personally I love the Eco paint at the Green Building Store (not only coz my friend works there!) They are abit expensive but do really lovely colours and are Eco friendly too!

P.S Any exterior gloss will do (not water based paints) and if you want it to last a really long time and get a good finish, then make sure you put on a primer and maybe even a varnish when you've finished the gloss.

Quality of paint is paramount, along with proper coats.
I'd suggest going to your local, decorators merchant.

Dulux, Leylands, and Johnston's are the brands that spring to mind. Primer first, Then 2 coats of undercoat, Then 2 coats of gloss paint. This Will give you a finish, that will last for a good few years. Remember to rub down the timber first, to smooth down any splinters and give a good key for the primer to adhere.
Then a light rub down between coats.

As for colour, they will have vast colour charts, for you to choose from, and will recommend the best colour undercoat.

Good luck.

A Water Proof House With Stars and Sparkels !

if you under coat with a varnish ( paint first ) then with a nice pink paint then varnish a clear varnish coat ( not tinted ) it will look PINK and shine like a perl and to boot you can stick glitter ontop of the pink coat and it will sparkle throught the varnish and look swashbuckling !
