The type you've discribed is rare, and sometimes they are ok. but generally their out to prove the other person wrong and themselves right.
Atheism is the belief that religion doesn't exist, more then that though it's about going about trying to dissprove religion.
As an Agnostic I found their religion to be worse then any of the other religions. Atleast Religion orientated people get the peace of "Being" with their god, learning the God's ways and then going about life normally and with some sort of peace of mind.
Not so with Atheists. They seem to be doomed to running around screaming like a pack of howling Barbarians, taking up any crusade that seems to remotely stink of religion and then trying to batter it down. For a group that proposes Science as their banner they are remarkably stupid about it. In Science since all has not been discovered and proven everything is possible, even Gods.
Since i'm quite grumpy over their ilk right now i'll just end it now with this..
No, their not showing respect. They're showing their predjustice in a less hostile manner. Because their trying to "talk sense" to you it generally means they think your stupid and need to have it explained, like getting a math problem wrong in class.

I'll be honest with you, but don't get all offended. Whenever someone tells me they are some type of witch, psychic, or pagan, I think they are way too out there for this day and age. The amount of people born into this setting is very low, so I assume somehow they found this to be rational. In contrast, I find the religious (of Islam, Judaism, Christianity) misguided by the social factors of his biographical geography, so I assume talking sense into them is more plausible.
Hope this helps.

I think it depends on how they're trying to "talk sense" to me. If they expect me to listen to them, and they don't want to listen to me, that is not respect. That is ignorance.
It's the same with any religion or lack thereof. If a Christian expects to be able to talk about their faith, they should also listen to opposing remarks. Who knows, any one of us actually might learn something!
And by the way, I am a Christian. But I do like hearing opposing comments, so long as they're presented in a respectful manner, and the person will listen to me when and if I'm able to answer their questions.
IF, however, they're simply asking the questions to make themselves appear intelligent and won't listen to the answers, they're the fools, not me.

I would think so but I wouldn't be bothered by this. Just be glad you don't have to endure the same BS. It's a blessing when you really think about it. I'm a Christian and though I'm offended when others (even fellow Christians) attempt to challenge or debunk the beliefs of others, I'm thankful that I'm not being forced to waste my time trying to clarify spiritual doctrine to the ignorant person.

Christians represent the greater threat. They are organized, well funded, politically connected (to idiots) and have as the ultimate goal of their supertitious beliefs, the end of the world. Who would you tend to engage in dialogue, one of them or some fluff of a pagan.

They are just Christians with a slightly different set of beliefs.
They are a lot more alike than they are different.
Bot Christians and atheists want to think that they are right and everyone else is wrong.
In essence they need someone to feel better than so they can feel good about themselves.
Love and blessings Don

I believe that if there wasn't God, there would be NO atheists. That only proves to me that there is God! Think about it...I have never met an Atheist who wasn't seeking information, facts, something to change his/her way of thinking. I pray for them, cause I was an non-believer once myself.
