Hi there.
Liverpool always used to have quite a bad reputation, I grew up in the neighbouring borough of Wigan. But, I believe that a lot has changed - there is a lot of regeneration going on and Liverpool is trying hard to compete with Manchester as being a very cool place to live.
I think like everywhere though, there will always be "problem areas"...so in order to help you, perhaps you should have a look at the following website:
http://www.upmystreet.com/
If you enter the postcode of where your job is, this website will give you a demographic based on the last UK census...and tell you the quality of things like schools and public facilities in the area. I've found it to be extremely accurate in the past...I used it for 4 different house moves and to be sure of its accuracy I compared several postcode areas that I know well.
Give it a go, its free and it will probably help you a great deal.
Good luck with the move!

Walton is certainly not the best area to live in Liddypool. For schools try Sefton Park or Alllerton. Transport good, city centre good and not half as bad as people from the South make out. They're all lilly livered!
You could, of course go further afield, Formby or Southport, or 'over the water' in Wallasey or New Brighton.
Don't be shy. It's a great place.

I was born in Liverpool and I live in Liverpool. Its a great city to live in. It does have its rough areas as do all cities. Advice would be to live in an area such as Allerton, West Derby, Stoneycroft, Old Swan and Tuebrook. Also parts of Norris Green, Croxteth and Walton are very nice. Liverpool is easy to travel round with the city centre being in easy reach from all over the city. There are plenty of excellent schools all over the city plus we have three established Universities. Its a great place to live. dont be put off by those who bad mouth Liverpool half of them havent even been to the city they only comment on the negative side but Liverpool is a very positive and cultural city.

I live in Liverpool not to far from Walton.
Sefton Park is a great area to live in Liverpool not to far from the city centre but a very leafy suburb.
Or Allerton is very nice and lots of good schools in that area.
the Walton area is very urban with quite high anti social problems like most large cities
But the people of Liverpool in general are very welcoming people
I know this cos I am a scouser (born and bred in Liverpool)
Please dont listen to ignorant out of towners that will tell you all bad things about my city.
Liverpool is the Greatest city in the world

Charly I'd look at moving to somewhere that is within commuting distance such as Southport - Liverpool maybe somewhat of a shock for you.
Spend a day there driving round - make sure your doors are locked and don't park for more than 10 seconds or else your car will be on bricks...

Oohh, personally, not a move I'd make.
Liverpool is great to visit and maybe to stay in an absolute emergency, but to live? In Walton? Good luck!
Other parts are much more habitable!
