My little boy started nursery last month, but he is still confused () because he doesnt know how to use the urinal properly. Yesterday he came home wet as he had tried to hold himself, I dont know how to help him (we live on our own), I've told him to go into the cubical but he refuses as he wants to be a 'big boy'.
Can anyone offer any advice or links to a good website on how to teach him to use one?
Lots of love.

Go in with him in the morning and talk him through it, also ask the nursery if they would let him go to the toilet when an older boy is also going and he can watch and learn, get the teachers to insist that he go on the toilet if he has not managed to pee at the urinal.....he won't mind being told to use the toilet by a teacher rather than you ..........Good Luck

Find a good male friend, uncle, or older cousin. A 9 or 10 year old would be great. Explain the problem and ask them if they would teach him what he needs to know to be like the older boys. Take them to a public restroom that is not to busy (church etc.) stand outside while the older cuz take him in and shows him what to do. Then take everybody out for an icecream. Brag on your son, and thank the cuz and talk open and freely about peeing like a man. Good luck. My son I had to show a few times. It is a dad thing. Grandson learned from my son. Most male RR now have urinals that are lower for little guys.

Every little boy has a few acidents using a urinal the first time. if its to high up its impossible to not have an accident. Whats worse is they dont appreciate anything about germs and hold on and in the big boy rules of school/ public toilets it sais "thou shalt not hang on or rest ones willy on a urinal" The school usually has a little plastic step he can use. I dont soppose you can take him into a gents to teach him either. He will learn. Good luck

Being a "big boy" doesn't require him to use the urinal. My son is 10 and is now using the urinal. he starting using the urinal about a year ago. There's nothing wrong with using the toilet. Do you have a urinal at home? Never pushed your child into something he/she's not ready for. He'll let you know when he's ready for the urinal.

Get an old lipstick and put a big red dot in your toilet bowel and teach him to aim at it. Then tell him when he uses the urinal at school to imagine a big red dot on it and aim! Its all about aiming with confidence! Maybe you could go with him to the toilet in the morning when you drop him off and give him a quick lesson. Good Luck!

I WORK IN A SCHOOL AND KNOW THAT THE PROBLEM WILL NOT BE THAT IT IS TOO HIGH JUST THAT YOUR SON IS UNSURE WHAT TO DO.
HOW DOES HE GO FOR A WEE AT HOME??
IF HE SITS DOWN THEN YOU NEED TO BE GETTING HIM TO STAND UP.
PUT A PING PONG BALL OR SOMETHING ELSE THAT FLOATS IN THE LOO AND ASK HIM TO AIM AT IT, THIS WILL BE GOOD PRACTISE.
AS FOR WHAT HE DOES WITH HIS PANTS AND TROUSERS THAT WILL COME WITH PRACTISE.
BOYS AT THE AGE OF 7 STILL RUSH TO THE URINAL AND PULL EVERYTHING DOWN!!
IT TAKES TIME TO MASTER BEING DISCREET AND IF HE IS BURSTING THEN NOT FLASHING HIS BOTTOM WILL BE THE LAST THING ON HIS MIND.
AS HE IS SO YOUNG I DONT THINK HIS PEERS WILL BE BOTHERED EITHER.
HOPE THAT HELPS GOOD LUCK!!!

Does he stand up to wee in the toilet at home? If not, teach him how to do that first. A good way of doing this it to put something like a "cornflake" in the toilet and tell him he has to aim at it and try to sink it. Peetime then becomes "Playtime" Also, it gives him more dexterity with his fingers and his ability to "Aim" at the toilet. It worked for my son at the same age. once he has the idea, it doesn't go away! Good luck.

You must teach him at home. Praise and encourage him. You have stated he wants to be a ' big boy' so. lots of hugs and kisses when he tries at home,- even if the floor gets soaked, I am sure it is fear that he will make that mistake at school. I am an old male person and often MISS myself! All us blokes do at sometime or other.

when u take him to the nursery ask i have a word with a senior member of staff, they will know of different ways to help as they will have delt with situations like this lots of times another idea is to get a male friend or uncle to go with him to public toilets and when he is at home encourage him to stand at the toilet
