The soundwaves travel into our brains, and it is the brain that perceives these vibrations as sound. Two people may hear the same sound in a similar way, but a person's previous experiences, belief systems, nervous system etc will determine how the two people react to that sound. Both might hear firecrackers, one might run for cover while the other thinks of a Buddhist ceremony. So, in this way, the sound is perceived differently, even though both heard the same sound.

Depends on many factors. While two people in good health may substantially hear the same sound, their actual response will be influenced by the type, frequency, location, amplitude and duratin of the sound. The anatomical and nervous physiology of the individuals can change the perception and recpetion of the sound. For example, when gunfire occurs, some may hear one shot, others two, and another a car backfiring. Similarly the more refined your audio experience, the more you can detect. Musicians and sound engineers have trained ears and can hear things, we do not consciously recognize, and discard. (With the exception of feedback).
