Depends on the size of the apartment. I know people who have larger breed dogs, but their apartments are bigger than mine. I've got a medium-sized mutt. She barks sometimes but not often. I'd suggest a calm breed such as a golden retriever if you have time to give attention to and walkies of course. Remember having a dog in an apartment is more difficult and calls for more work than having your own yard.

I have a boxer and I live in an apartment. She is very energetic. As long as you are able to devote time to spend with her and take her on walks, depending on the size of your apartment, you can have pretty much any dog you'd like!

I'd definitely suggest a small breed dog! I'd also suggest adoption.
There is a great number of reason that getting an adult dog is best... mainly because they're aleady housebroken : )
Here is a great list of small breed dogs...

Small dogs are the best way (I think) to go when in a small apartment. Any dog that will be below your knee will be easier to take care of, and easier to watch over. = )

I saw recently that you can now buy dog litter trays..so I suppose as long as you a giving the dog enough exercise it will depend on the size of your apartment...

None. Dog is a descendant of the wolf and needs green space to be happy.

small dogs like chihuahua's are good for apartments. they prefer being indoors where they feel safer.
don't get terriers they need lots of exercise and although they are small they need lots of room.
make sure your animal gets lots of attention and training. don't think just because its small that it doesn't need training because they still do.
good luck.

I'm biased... but I suggest a yorkie! :) Any dog that you would get would need to small (under 10lbs) and you would have to take the time to potty train it and teach it not to bark and get you into trouble.

I'd focus more on the personality rather than the breed.
