Last I checked, common DVD drives can only write at 4-8 speed.

Try to use those same exact disc in your PC or laptop. If they work good there but not in your Home DVD player you may either need a different brand of DVD blank media DVD-RW. I have found TDK to work good. Also another factor could be that older DVD players will not play DVD+RW's at all or as good as DVD-RW's. I have found that the more expensive Home DVD Player you have the more problems it will have playing burned DVD's and cheap Home DVD players for about $35-$60 play more of a variety of burned DVD's and plays them better.

The two answer above are correct, I usually burn DVDs at X2 for good results. It could be that you have a dirty lens in your player or recorder, have you tried another player? Try running a CD/DVD lens cleaner disc in both machines.

You should never go more than 2X speed for good settings, regardless of the dvd drive and then there is always the quality of the optical disks to consider. It may take a little longer to burn but you'll get better results.

i found that in DVDx if you change from 700MB to 650MB on the volume don't exceed in the output settings. this should fix that. i take it your going from DVD to VCD and your burning a CD at that speed.
