my ankels and feet swell really bad and they hurt all the time,if they are massaged the swelling goes down right away, and as soon as the massaging stops and i stand up they swell right away. the bones on my ankels are very sore to the touch, i went to the dr and he said i have imflamatory disease and put me on 800mgs of ibuprophen and it worked for like a day and a half and then stopped working.as long as im laying down they dont swell however as soon as i wake up and hang my legs over the edge of the bed to get up i can feel something like fluid maybe rushing down my legs to my feet, i went to the er and they ruled out my heart, and gave me steroids for 5 days and it worked until the 6th day and then it started all over again.im having blood work done to see if they can find anything reason for this, but im really concerned about this and its hard to wait around, so if anyone has an ideas as to what this may be plz let me know, they also itch when they swell, thansk in advance

Your kidney and heart have to be examined in detail. In the meanwhile, reduce your salt intake. I mean sodium should be reduced in the diet. Put socks in your legs to reduce the pitted edema (If you press your finger in the swelling for a few seconds, it will leave an impression there). Place your legs horizontally. Take ECG and meet a Cardiologist or take microalbuminuria test and consult a Nephrologist. The doctor may prescribe diuretic to increase the flow of urine and reduce swelling.
Please note that I am not a medical professional.

imflammatory disease? I cannot find anything with this having anything to do with swelling of the feet..

You really need to see a specialist, or just another dr. Did your dr check your legs for blood clots?

I know someone else with what sounds like the same thing.. Do your feet get hot at all? I know she uses ice, puts her feet up often with ice.. When they go anywhere she has to put her feet out the window to keep them up.. I cannot remember what its called.. I am sorry..

could be liver disease as well....it could be effecting the heart and/or kidneys.

have a liver panel done if alt and ast levels are normal, have the doctor dig a bit deeper....sometimes with liver disease these enzymes are not affected (in such instances as hepatitis c)

good luck
