Not knocking their beliefs, but if they think their belief is that powerful, and the Divine being is so omnipresent, why does he have to use people to get our attention? My biggest question is is I was in the shower the other day, and answered the door in a towel, and one day I was gearing up with the truck running and the family headed out the door to go to a wedding, but they still think we should drop EVERYTHING and listen to their hype. Why are they so rude, or is it they are just stupid and/or programmed drones?

JW's and Mormons are Christians, so are Muslims, baptists, catholics Pentecostals. They are all branches of the same religion
They are stealing each others converts.
While the cats away the mice will play
They are all sub consciously aware that their religion is untrue. They need friends, alot of those people at the door will one day realize that its all crap. Some of them are brought up with it and actually perceive life the way the church teaches it and believes that you are on your way to eternal hell fire. If you can, remain polite, thank them for their concern and say no. It was simple things like that, that helped me see that non believers were not that bad after-all. And forced me to reevaluate my own position. Which in turn helped lead me out of christianity.

Now I happen to be A Seventh Day Adventist Christian and my reason for talking to folks about the Bible may be different from what you have heard in the past, but I point you to A command from the second member of The Godhead before He left, In Matthew 28:18-20 we are given God's orders to "GO" and teach all nations, and that includes you, by the way we live in A planet that has A total death rate, that means you are walking in your own grave RIGHT NOW, and Jesus "IS THE ONLY WAY OUT" John tells us the following:
14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, BUT BY ME.
perhaps like the thief on the cross although you can not feel the nails and death at your face like they did you understood your true conditions perhaps your understanding of what YOU should place "FIRST" would change, hay free bible lessons www.itiswritten.com God bless you, visit A Seventh Day Adventist Church in your area, EMAIL not messange me also wgr88@yahoo.com

"Why do Jehovahs witnesses, Mormons, Christians, etc think it is okay to knock on everyones door?" -- Not to be funny, but: Knock and it will be open... plus many people have a passion in their lives I lack, and are not content just sitting watching Vanna light up letters on the TV, and think helping people is the way to go.
Why bust their chops, they know people will be RUDE, and yet they knock anyway. Why? well they are more courageous than most, and are curious about people.
Gee that's bad qualities to have in people isn't it.
Yes, I know we are eating when they knock, but just put the fork down and be polite for 2 minutes - then say politely NO, then go eat dinner, no harm.
IF they are RUDE first - then you have proof something is wrong with them and can be rude, and close the door firmly, but politely. Rude religious people can be dangerous so do not antagonize them.

A common misconception is that Jehovah's Witnesses go from door-to-door because they feel it is their duty to get a householder to "change his mind". In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door-to-door even if there were no hope that anyone would change their religion, or even if no one would listen to them!

That is because Jesus Christ specifically assigned the house-to-house ministry to the Christian congregation, with no regard for specific results.

(Luke 10:1,2) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.

Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to direct attention to the bible, and move on when their message is unwanted. Since each congregation in the United States tries to call at every home in its territory at least twice each year, there is strong motivation for them to move on where little interest is shown. Also, the Scriptures help the Witnesses to expect little interest from most:

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching ...and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

In most places it is not illegal so it is OK to do so as long as it is not done too late or too early in the day. The two major groups that do go door to door now are the first two you mentioned but it is important to realize why they do this. They are trying to earn their salvation. I know for sure the Watchtower (JW's) state it as one of 5 requirements to be "eligible for eternal life. This does not even assure them of it..it just means they might get it. I could be "eligible" for a promotion but I may not get it.

I do want to point out that GOD uses people (and sometimes not even those who profess to know HIM) to show HIS love to us.

2 Cor 1:3-4 tells us to comfort others with the comfort GOD has given us when we were in need. When I think of it, it is such a blessing and privilege to be used to help others. Just this week alone, HE has used us to save two people from suicide.

There is a way to know we have eternal life. Check the link below:

You've just about got it right when you wonder whether these people are behaving like drones. They've convinced themselves that it's their duty to go out and convert people to their cause and the fact that most folks resent their prattling means nothing. They feel that by being told to freak off, they're being persecuted for their beliefs, and that persecution earns them a guaranteed place in "Heaven".
Most of them are not bright enough to grasp the contradictions. Pity 'em and ignore 'em.

They see faith and God as an instrumental tool fixing the brokenness of the world. They are proud of the paths they take in approaching theology and a reletionship with divinity. They wish to make available to everyone this sense of closeness, and suggest the best way to do it is the same path they have chosen.

God chooses to dignify his people by having them deliver His message to people, a work He will have done no matter what. (Luke 19 :40)
Jesus, his disciples and apostles set the pattern (Acts 20:20 and 5:42)

Saving lost souls is the main reason. They believe that this is their way into heaven too, reaching as many lost souls as possible and seeing them saved. A reward in heaven is for these kinds of people.

I too am somewhat taken aback by their presumption , but I must admit to a certain pleasure at exposing their shortcomings , which are many. Also the women are often pretty.
