"Faith is the evidence of things hope for and the proof of things not seen."

I see this answer a lot when I ask questions about faith. All it says is what faith DOES. It doesn't say what faith is. It basically says that faith is what helps you believe something when there is no evidence. If you take it literally, that faith actually IS proof of things not seen then faith in anything prooves the belief to be true. If I had faith in unicorns, that would mean they exist if faith literally IS proof of things not seen. The statement really just says nothing at all about faith. Christians who use that verse don't even know what it means or they wouldn't use it.

Faith is the act of proving what you know to be true, but which often doesn't seem true.

Faith is doing what God says because you believe Him, even though what He says doesn't look like it will work. It is acting on your beliefs and convictions in spite of what your senses tell you. In acting on them, you prove them. You find that God makes a way.

The problem often comes when people try to use faith in a belief that is not really spiritually viable. Like that Christianity will bring them power and wealth. Look up what that did for Simon the Sorcerer.

Faith is testing what God says by trying it. It is action, not belief, though it is born of belief.

Hello!! :o) I believe that faith IS [as you say] a belief in something without evidence. But to the one WITH faith - their faith is often supported by what THEY believe IS 'evidence'. Some may say that a tree is just a tree while others might say that a tree is evidence of their belief in a creator. Craig!! :o)

I don't know what version you are using. But the KJV states:
Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. If you are trying to make sense out this then that is your mistake. Its not sense, its faith.

There is evidence it is up to each ndividual to decide if they want to believe what is put beofre them. Like the Bible being used a road map to almost every archelogical dig ever done. That prove the bible and everything in it.
