I am trying to figure out how faith works for some people. Do you agree that faith is a strong sense of hope? Could religous beliefs also be held because of hope.

I don't think my faith is the same as hope. I still have a kind of faith even when I am hopeless. When i tried killing myself, I had no hope but I still believed in a form of higher power. I didn't think I was going to heaven and it didn't bring me any comfort, I just felt that there was something that existed beyond my knowing.

"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." Hebrews 11:1. Faith is not a religious belief. It is a knowledge of truth within the heart.

I don't consider Hope to be faith, Hope is despair. It is the last refuge of the truly lost. A shipwreck victim hopes somebody will save him no matter how little faith he has that it will ever happen. I hope for sanity to return to the world sometime in my lifetime. I have little faith.

Hope has absolutely nothing to do with faith. Faith is knowing without a doubt that something is true even though you can't physically prove it. I don't run around hoping God is real, I know that for a fact through faith.
