Normal processing takes 4 - 6 weeks, and you have plenty of time, although the sooner you do it the better. New laws will require that everyone travelling to Canada, Mexico, and the Carribean will now be required to have passports, whereas before they didn't. There could be a rush to get passports at the start of next year and possible delays in processing depending on the workload. Currently, the passport customers I process at the P.O., recieve their passports in about a month.

You will need to submit your original birth certificate or a certified copy from your state of birth. So, if you don't have that, work on getting that now. Most passport/post offices offer photos for a fee, or you may have them made somewhere else and bring them with you. Normally home photos aren't acceptable unless you've followed the State Dept.'s strict guidelines, which can be found on their website: http://www.travel.state.gov Any other questions you have will be answered them, along with contact info. When getting a passport you have to bring the filled out application, a picture( it's ok if you don;t they may be able to take your picture there but i would call and ask first.) A check to pay for the passport fees. and your birth certificate. Don't be alarmed they will ask to take your birth certificate to send in with the application. try to bring two forms of ID. Your birth certificate and your drivers license. The process takes about 6 to 8 months. I would get every thing ready and do it now. If you wait til the summer it takes even longer.
