How do you get him to understand that you are happy with what you have but wanting more out of life does not mean that you don't love him or are not satisfied with him. Is it wrong to want to have a nest egg, or to have a nice xmas or money for emergencies? What can you say to make him understand without him thinking everything is not his fault but he can't spend money like he does on little things that add up to big things?

Take it from Granny here. Money is the biggest problem when couples have a break down in communicating. It needs to be talked about and talked about again, so that before you say I do your feeling the same way about how it's going to be spent and how much is going to be saved. Each person should have a certain amount each week that can be spent anyway they want.
Depending on how much income there is, there needs to be a set amount that either can spent without consulting the other. I advise that if you have joint checking, don't have debit cards. Neither of you knows what the other is pulling out and it's just to easy to overdraw.

Money is a major cause of marital discord. Some people feel too insecure and end up spending too much or too little. My case is quite opposite of yours. I can understand your predicament. Unfortunately, one gets caught in a Catch 22 situation in such circumstances. The couple does not want to thrash out the problem; counseling does not help and friends do not want to intervene.
