It depends where in UK you are coming from and where in Belgium you are going.
For Northern Belgium flying to Amsterdam and taking the train to Antwerp or Mechelen may be an option. The station is right at the airport and KLM used to do a good deal on combined rail and air tickets. Budget airlines to Amsterdam could be an option as well.
KLM often do a cheap deal to Brussels via Amsterdam - this works for me because I live near Humberside airport where KLM is the only international scheduled carrier. The price is often cheaper than just flying to Amsterdam but the Amstredam/Brussels leg can be unreliable.
Watch out that some budget airlines (Ryan Air) fly to Charlroi claiming that this is "Brussels South".
My experience with BMI from Leeds to Brussels is good but it is expensive if you book close to the date of travel.

I'm not sure if Easy Jet, or Ryan Air go there but they are cheap and good. If not Belgium they usually go anywhere else inexpensive. I took the Eurostar from Waterloo,UK and found that reasonable and entertaining. There you get scenery and interactions with passengers and you can walk around.

i've flown with Jet2, Easyjet and Ryanair, all about the same, reasonable amount of leg room. No tv, music etc and anything you want on the plane you pay for such as food.
The later you leave the booking the more expensive they are so book well in advance

I always fly with Ryan Air. It's really cheap, for a flight, and the service is okay. (Of course you don't get any food on the plane, onless you are willing to pay for it)

Look at the site of: www.ryanair.com
or www.easyjet.com

Enjoy your flight!
