To begin with, if its not slowing your system down, its not running a thorough check of your system!

Any additional software will slow the system to some degree if it is actually monitoring traffic.

Take a look at Kaspersky.com, Sophos.com, and Trendmicro.com. All are superior to the usual PC dreck.

A nice free one is called AVAST. Search for it on www.download.com or click the link below.

It's actually a lot nicer then McAfee.

i prefer Avast, even i like AVG, Avast is too good then AVG and low on resources.
