I have some large white mushrooms growing in my lawn, I have picked one and want to cook it. I was going to slice it and gently fry it, which is best butter, olive oil or sunflower oil to fry it in?

well olive oil is the healthiest but somehow I think that butter will go best with mushrooms. Be sure it's safe anyways, wild mushrooms can be poisonous.

Check out these websites about mushrooms. Some of the most poisonous are the most innocent looking. Just because it is white does not make it safe. Amanita Phaloides is deadly, pure white and beautiful. There are ways to test the mushrooms, but you have to be an expert to be sure. My husband and I have eaten some wild mushrooms but they are ones that are very distinctive like Chantarelles and Morels. Here are some web sites to give you more information:

As far as cooking mushrooms is concerned, I like butter but I don't want too much saturated fat, so I combine it with olive oil. Sunflower oil doesn't add much flavor; it is really neutral, but it would be ok. I sometimes add a few herbs, but I don't put garlic on because I think it fights with the mushroom flavor.

fry in a little olive oil,i use extra virgin for the flavour, salt and pepper, near the end of cooking add a wee knob of butter to give them a nice nutty flavour, serve them on lovely buttered toast and a big mug of tea..oh i want some now mushrooms are my fave thing in the whole world!

Olive oil is the healthy choice but you can also add a bit of butter once the olive oil is heated, it adds a wonderful aroma and better taste. the technique works for steaks too.

olive oil is healthy but burns very quick, for things like fry ups I would recommend sunflower oil

I would use sunflower oil olive oil is to overpowering and don’t like to be heated to high temperatures, butter can burn and taste nasty, but should you be eating mushrooms that you found in your garden?

Probably sunflower oil, and I wish you luck after you eat it, if you're not sure what kind it is. I have had more than one dog die from eating wild mushrooms.
