I don't think the earthquake itself causes the fire, its more like a combination of things that are caused by the earthqualke that cause the fire.
Gas pipes can break as can cables and just about everything that can possibly cause a fire. Any form of electric cables can break and cause a short circuit.

IN an earthquake, gas pipes underground are broken that causes leaks, when it is near a place that causes sparks or electricity cables, that starts a F I R E !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!infinity

Break a gas pipe, tip over a lit candle, electric wires snap apart and spark are just a few examples.

Gas mains break. Power lines get downed. Lamps, candles, anything with flame in it gets knocked over. You get the idea.

it can cause structual damage to power lines/ other electrical structures which can cause combustible objects to ignite or molten lava which can cause things to catch fire due to it's immense temperature.
