It seems quite a claim that anyone understand Christianity fully, and to even have a reasonable understanding of it you'd need a wide knowledge of other religions and their roots also, how many Christians would honestly claim they fully understand their religion?

Actually it was you who said it to me and what sparked my question... though you aren't the only one who has said this to me.

Total rubbish, there is no special knowledge being in the Christian club, I should know seeing as I was part of the club for many years so you can't pull the wool over my eyes so easily by making it seem like there's some secret knowledge imparted to members.

18 years of studying world religions and extreme studying of my Catholic faith probably puts me at knowing about 90% of knowing Christianity. Problem with Christianity is there are 3000 denominations of it and new ones keep popping up or old ones changes often. It's difficult to constantly learn what all the churches teach. And many are becoming female driven and New Agers are throwing things into our faces. It's sad how one religion, the first one that was due to Jesus' live, dead and resurrection has become so divided and fight with each other. I know there are 4 denominations of Judah and I think 3 of Islam. But 3000 of the Christian faith - WOW! that's a lot to know.
I am an orthodox Catholic by choose and I know much about my religion but I learn more all the time after reading the history of the Churchm encyclicals by the popes and such. But I know one thing for sure, 'if it's new, it's not true; if it's true, it's not new". Jesus has revealed to us God's plan for salvation and with the gifts of the Holy Spirit we are slowing learning about His entire plan. Revelation is only revealed to us when God feels we are ready and able to understand it. So, as of today I don't know it all. And I think if I did know it all, I would be like God or God. And I am not and never will be. He is perfection. But every day I learn more and more and hopefully am getting closer to Him.
You are right in saying that no one knows it all. And it's sad that Christians (here) keep saying that non-Christians have no idea what they are talking about. From all the months I've been coming here, I see many Christians having no idea what they are talking about.

They can say whatever they want, religion and free speech are protected in America. I'm guessing there's a magnificent amount about Christianity that you don't fully understand if you don't believe in God. Every aspect of a Christian's life is founded on a concept that you can't grasp. The question is, why would it matter if you understand them or not? You're an Atheist, you're not seeking to understand Christianity

Hello!! :o) Think of 'being a Christian' as though it was 'being a member of a club'. People outside of the club may know quite a bit about the club itself - but only those who belong to the club are privy to certain 'truths'. God reveals many things to those [and ONLY to those] who believe in Him. The Bible itself becomes less confusing and contradictory - to a believer. This is not to say that Christians are all-knowing. Far from it. But there are certain truths that only 'club members' get to know. Truths that an Atheist [for one] could NEVER know. [No matter how much they study the Bible] Have a great day!! Craig!! :o)
PS - In response to YOUR response. You were obviously NOT part of the club.
PPS - Listen very carefully, Earthman. You obviously like to think of yourself as a logical, THINKING human being. So I'm going to ask you to rely on that part of yourself when you consider the following. Who in their right mind would continue to believe in God - with nothing more to hold onto than the words written in the Bible? No one. And that's because the Bible wasn't written to appeal to our intellect. It was written to appeal to our soul. So I assure you - anyone who embraces God through the spirit of LOVE and not through THOUGHT [alone] is [eventually] given BY GOD the ability to understand His word in a way that an intellect - no matter how clever - could never understand. So don't assume that it is the rest of your family [those who believe in God] that are blind and that it is YOU who can see. An unbelieving man's ability to 'reason' - is limited by his ability to think. But God is not impressd by your intellect. To God - man [and that includes you AND me] is a dolt. God wants your LOVE. Craig!! :o)

Whenever you pose a question that someone can't answer they will sometimes say that you don't fully understand the topic. I get it a lot too when I come up with statements that the Christians can't refute.

Ask God to fill you with the Holy Spirit, and accept His salvation. There are mysteries on purpose, that only His children can understand. Why do you think Atheist feel the way they do. They have no understanding until they surrender. God Bless and enlighten your path.

I tthink you have answered your own question. You may know a lot about Christianity, but you don't know Christ, and that is what Christianity is. Paul wrote :Philipp 3:10 "that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death;" That is what you don't know.

What you need to understand is that there is a Heaven and a Hell. There is no way you can get to Heaven on your own merit. You need The Savior. By the way, God doesn't believe in atheists.

No, they can't really. But niether can you. Lots of different people have lots of different definitions of what "Christianity" is. When someone says you don't fully understand, they are right, and not only about you... about themselves.
