Many dogs with diabetes do go blind, however, if the blindness is caused by cataracts, there are several good surgeons that successfully remove the cataracts..Ask your vet if your dog is a candidate for eye surgery.

We had a blind Pekingese, and he was very happy..

Dogs handle blindness in a totally different way to humans.
He will still be happy and play and be his usual self. Just make sure you dont move furniture around and take him on the same walks, so he knows exactly where things are.
I have known of a dog that, even though blind, would still travel in the car looking out he windscreen as he had always done.
My dog went blind, through age at 14, and we just made sure there was nothing around that could harm her. Her blindness was relatively gradual, so she adjusted. She had a massive stroke at 16 so I had to have her put down then.

Please dont give up on your dog, continue to love him. Just make sure his quality of life is still tops, dont think of him in human terms. Animals are able to adjust a lot better then people.

Aww im sorry for your dog and you may not be able to think this right now but, worse things could be happening to him. I worked for a vet for awhile and have had several animals my self and still do and i want to tell you that your dog will do fine with his blindness. He will be albe to develop his other senses alot easier than adults can. We had a dog when i was younger who was almost blind and she did fine. She lived for years after that and used her nose more and more of course to find her way places and all. So your dog may need you more but, thats ok too it sounds like you really care about your dog so be glad your able to be there for him and concentrate on the time you both have left together which hopefully will be a long , long time! Good luck!

what does being blind have to do with you loving him if you love him you love him if you leave him because he is blind then you are shallow and really didn't love him.
