I am planning a Friday night Autumn wedding, and my mom and I are at odds about what to serve for food. Since the wedding is going to be at 6pm, I am leaning more for appetizers, and small munchies. My mother believes we should still have a sit down dinner. Any advice?

Brooke, congratulations on the wedding. Since the wedding is at 6, I think I would give the guests something other than munchies. You wouldn't have to go all the way with a sit down dinner, boring and drawn out. How about a buffet? Serve simple foods, sandwichs, meatballs, cocktail sausage, a southern favorite jumbaila...Or if want to do roast or chicken...

People are going to be hungrey, it's going to be 7 before the reception really gets started. So, please provide something that will satisfy them. You don't have to go to a lot of trouble. Sandwichs can be made the day before, wrap them up tightly with a damp paper towel on top. The meatballs can be bought in bulk at Sam's. Do them in a crockpot, and cover them with canned or jarred spaghetti sauce. The cocktail sausages throw them in another crockpot along with bar-b-que sauce.

Have vegetable tray and a cheese tray to go along with them. The jumbalia is a rice dish made with chicken and sausage, very good and easy to fix. My friend made pasta salad for her wedding. Most of things things can be fixed ahead, and they won't strain the budget if it's all ready tight.

Brooke, you have the most wonderful and happiest of wedding days....

God bless us all................

Usually 6pm means dinner time. So if I was a guest at your wedding, I would expect dinner to be served. However, if it began at 2pm and no later than 4pm then appetizers would be ok.

What time does it end? If it ends at 10pm or past it, then it should be dinner. Because your guest have been at your wedding for a while they will get hungry, and you do not want them to leave so that they can go eat somewhere else and there be a possiblity of not returning.

I love to get there early simply to be trustworthy, in an effort to attend your 7:30 marriage ceremony I will attempt to get there at 7:10. If it's half-hour away, I needed to depart my condominium at 6:forty. That approach I obtained within the bathe and obtained dressed at five:30. No, I didn't consume dinner earlier than your marriage ceremony. I traditionally consume at 7 or eight. So, I am hoping there'll some thing a bit of extra monstrous than cake and cookies. I absolutely will depart early and give up via rapid meals on my manner house. Please dont do that! You are torturing your visitors. If you most effective wish to serve cake and a few cheese bites, then have the reception mid-afternoon (two-4pm) so you're now not interrupting a mealtime. Evening receptions name for dinner, you are not able to get by means of with simply snacks within the night time.

guests do come to a wedding, looking forward to a big meal...

i always thought it would be cool to have a chinese buffet for a wedding.... something different then the chicken meal...

i was at a wedding and they had appetizers..... they had sandwiches with the crust cut off... and then cut in a traingle.. ( had to eat how many to get full)

the chicken wings were messy.....

you get my point.....

appetizers are very expensive and very time consuming....

I planed my entire wedding on $2,000. It was awesome. Hard to beleive but awesome. Anyways, we bought turkeys and ham. Had our friends cook them up any way they can think of and then had bread and everyone made sandwiches. We also had a slow cooker full of taco meat. And then we had chez and salsa. My hubby is a nacho fan.
