Empire was/is an important factor in bringing English to the fore, but there are qualities inherent in the language itself that will help to keep it there.
French is limited by its Academy. It is not allowed to grow and change, to become enriched - certain phrases must be used in a precise manner.
Most Asian languages are too difficult as second languages, whether spoken or written.
Peoples using the Cyrillic alphabet are in the minority.
Simple languages (for example, a language that repeats a word to make it plural, like woman-woman for women) are not precise enough for science nor flexible enough for word-play and poetry.
We could probably communicate with everyone in the world if we could speak English, Spanish, and Indonesian. ;-)

Because you can communicate all over the world in the English language. English is toughed in elementary school in many countries. I don't believe people moving to an English speaking country, has anything to do with the language, but economic need.

Most simply put, English is so important because America is a super-power. We're a huge country, one of the strongest ever, and the majority of us speak English. Between America and England (which has been around FOREVER), English is simply a must-have language, especially as both countries gain standing and power.
I dont think most people think about the country's main language when they decide to move to that country, but rather how the country will help and support them as individuals. It's just a coincidence that the helpful and supportive countries are primarily English-speaking. *shrug*

I agree a hundred%. in the event that they do no longer desire to speak the language of the land, they might pass homestead. Steve is erroneous in his assessment, exhibiting his very own lack of understanding and prejudice. If somebody is willingly emigrating to a diverse united states, there is obviously a reason. as quickly as there, they might desire to do their maximum suitable to assimilate, and that could needless to say initiate with conversing, or studying to speak the language. it truly is idiotic to state in any different case. by potential of ways, Steve, I communicate 3 languages, and can understand some others. it is not that complicated if somebody places an attempt in to it. I certainly have a brother that speaks 7, specifically because of the fact he certainly tries. Why can no longer everybody else attempt to a minimum of learn a 2d language? isn't that the LEAST they might do for their new united states?

English is just the language used by the current Empire.
In the past, it was French, before Spanish, before Latin, before Greek, ...
What makes you think that the current situation comes from something related to the language itself?

You shouldn't ask that question. The importance of English is a whole other issue than the movement of people.
