A full moon means that it is the end of a lunar month, or simply that you can see all of the moon. Don't confuse this with a new moon, a new moon is when you can't see the moon.

Well.... it's actually never technically completely full... .but it means that the earth is not 'shading' any part of the moon from the sun's light. When you see a half-moon or a crescent moon, the earth is casting it's shadow on the part of the moon that is 'dark'.

that the moon is on the opposite side of the earth from the sun and is getting as much sunlight on the side of the moon that we see as it can get. If the earth sun and moon were exactly in a straight line the moon would be eclipsed. This means that it is not in the earth shadow either.
