Chiken Guinea , also known more commonly as CHIKUNGUNYA is a viral disease caused by an arbovirus. Arboviruses are ARthropod BOrne VIRUSES. This virus belongs to the same family of viruses like Dengue and yellow fever. It is spread by Aedes mosquitoes, which are day-biting mosquitoes. The word CHIKUNGUNYA is derived from an African word meaning "painful bends". As the name implies, the disease is characterised by severe joint pains with fever. There is also a decrease in platelet counts when the fever subsides, but this disease is never as severe as dengue fever. Major bleeds are not associated and the patient does not go into shock.
As far as homeopathic treatment is concerned, no proven medicine exists. However, one can use NATRUM SULPH 12X , 4 pills twice a day which may offer some symptomatic relief at best. Frankly speaking, it will be much better to avoid mosquito bites and to stop mosquito breeding by taking community measures. And if you end up getting the disease, then it would be better to take PARACETAMOL 650mg 4 - 6 hrly for fever and pain. The disease per se is not fatal but you'll have to wait for the course of disease to be over. Unfortunately, in about 30 - 40 % cases, the pains could persist for 2 - 3 weeks.

Yes, although the power of the mind is a wonderful thing. Some people will accept any old tosh as a placebo but they convince themselves that it is doing them good and in some cases they spontaneously recover. Although they would probably recover with their bodily resources without intervention, I feel that some other form of Therapy should be in place to deal with this section of the population. Often they feel better after a good moan - and surely it is cheaper to get people top listen to their problems rather than dole out homeopathic stuff. Yes it would be quicker doling out treatment than listening to the patients, but it wouldn't necessarily need qualified people to be a sounding board. Volunteers could perhaps do the job at no cost to the NHS other than a cup of tea... People suffering stress, etc., are often the same people to exhibit other medical symptoms because they dwell on their problems and their problems multiply. They need to feel that someone cares and a couple of minutes to fill a prescription is not necessarily what they need. Also bear in mind that lots of the "normal" medicine prescribed often does not do the intended job, even without the side effects (and note that a headache is not a sign of asprin deficiency...).

Chickungunea is a viral disease caused by an arbovirus spread by Aedes mosquitoes. It cannot be transmitted from humans to humans, it has to be via mosquitos. It is not fatal, but there are reports of death due to secondary causes. In fact the Kerala government and Central Government of India are in conflict on this.

Tall claims are made about homeopathic medicines being effective: 5 ml pills POLYPORUS PINICOLA-200 (or) POLYPORUS OFFICINALIS-200 Both the above names mean one and the same medicine, 5 ml pills contains about 250 pills. Give two pills (chewable) for a dose; just one dose (irrespective of age) any time, not necessarily before/after food. This one dose completely cures fever and body pain of Chikungunya. No need to take repeatedly. Just one dose. Fever subsides, so also joint pains.

In rare cases (say one in 300), fever subsides but joint pain continues. In that case only, just give one dose (2 pills for a dose chewable, irrespective of age) of another homeopathic medicine called Kali-Mur-1000.
