If your mom gets insurance for the car and you are a co-owner it would stand to reason that you are insured because you would of course drive a vehicle you own or co-own. The best thing to do is list you as a driver on the policy.

If I wanted to, I could put insurance on your car in my name. The insurance goes with the car. As long as you are driving with the owner's permission (you are because you ARE the owner) and there is an insurance policy in effect that covers the vehicle, no problem.

From what you say, it sounds like you live together. In that case, both of you need to be on the insurance policy. All household members of legal age to drive MUST be listed on the policy, either as authorized operators or prohibited operators. Obviously someone listed as a prohibited operator may NEVER operate the vehicle.
