I mean, I hold the pick between the side of my index finger and the pad of my thumb. My index finger naturally wants to stretch out all the way. If I let it stretch out, then it touches the strings because the last joint of my index finger extends beyond the length of the pick. So I curl my index finger into my hand. It takes a big effort to keep the index finger curled up. It keeps coming uncurled as I play. Will it eventually just stay there if I keep trying to curl it in? Or will it always be that way? I'm still unsure of the most efficient way to hold the pick. I've tried a bunch of different grips and I just want to use a grip that will not limit my progress due to its inefficiency. So, will the index finger eventually stay where I want it? What's the most efficient way to hold the pick? Any playing tips would be appreciated.

I wish I could better advise you, but I've been a thumb picker since I started playing guitar. Chet Atkins had been my number one mentor so now I use all my fingers.

I tried to use a straight pick on a few occasions, but it would fly off to who-knew-where.
