There comes a time when it's not what you say or what you do,
but about how you make the person feel.
So, in that sense, you are right.
Words are merely used differently by every other individual.
The question is: What Does It Mean To YOU?

Words Are The Only Universal Expression That Lets You Convert Your Emotions, Thoughts, Etc. Into A Publically Understandable Form. It's One Of The Ultimate Expressions For Humans, Beside Action. Personally, If It Was Up To Me, We'd All Be Breakdancing Mimes From The Ghetto......

Words matter. They affect our real lives. If I speak about you to someone else, don't you want my words to be true? Don't you want me to make sure that I am understood the way I meant to speak? So, if I slander you, you can hold me responsible for the damage done to your reputation. Because a bad reputation results in loss of real opportunity.
This is why the right says that there is ultimate truth. Not the wishy washy 'I said that, but I meant this' problem. Many other examples, do I have to go into them all?

"So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. James 3:5-10

I agree, words only hurt you if you acctaully beleive that is what you are. With cuss words though, i still think they are just rude to say around polite company. I wouldn't never cuss in front of my grandparents, parents, and people like that, but friends sure. BUt, when someone class me names, or something, I just say okay!, you got it. Becuase it doesn't matter to me, i dont give thoes words any power. WHich, just makes that person more mad, which, means, you win, right? haha. Good question.

They ARE powerful.
They can destroy peoples' lives,
start off a war.
It's really up to us how we want to use them - for good, or not.
