Do drugs and alcohol majorly affect a persons thinking?
Will they make irrational decisions?
Will they push away people that love them?
Will they tell people they don't love them?
Please help me understand these things.

When will they realize what is going wrong?
Will they regret what they have done?

I can give more details if you want.

I did ask this question in 2 different areas.

I am pregnant (22), due in 4.5 weeks. A month ago the babies dad my ex boyfriend (23) kicked me out of his parents house told me he didn't love me or want to be with me anymore. This was literally over night. One minute he said we had made it and we were going to be together forever and 12 hours later he needed me gone. Then he started playing these head games with me saying I want to be a family and then turning around and showing totally different. Recently I found out he is running around with a 34 year old married woman, and he is very far into an addiction of cocaine and alcohol. He denies all of these things of course. He still goes to my doctors appointments with me and the other day and he had a hickey on his neck. Then in the room he wants to kiss me touch my belly tell me he loves me. I told him not to because he obviously doesn't care for my feelings.
He texts me daily saying he loves me and cares about me.

I would like more details. Are you asking this as a general question or does someone you care about have a drug addiction? Sometimes it depends on the people and it also depends on the drugs.

Yes, drugs can do those things. Drugs contain chemicals that interact with the natural chemicals of your body. Both cause changes in mood, behavior, reasoning, etc.

When in one of these chemically altered states, it may not be possible for someone to see what they are doing. Their ability to process environmental cues has been inhibited. It is generally necessary to remove the chemicals from your system (i.e. stop taking drugs or alcohol) before you can perceive the effect they have had on you.

I suggest an intervention.

It depends on the type of drug, but with all the crap going around today yes all that happens. I am amazed how many people I have seen steal from their loved ones and lie to them just to get more drugs. Most of them have also ended up six feet under. I hope they realize but it seems to just get worse.
