squirt the cat with a stream from a spray bottle of water every time it scratches the furniture, then carry it to the post & park it's front paws on it 7 make the scratching motion. will take at least 5 or so episodes of doing this til the cat catches on
That's how I trained my cats--also sprayed them with water every time they ate my houseplants

In my case, one of my cats use the scratching post but the other one has no interest at all. You can try getting a new catnip spray of use even fresh catnip. As for the leather chair, I think the claw tips comes out really easily if the cat wants. I've been to a small pet store and they have some transparent sheet and sprat to put on the furniture and prevents the cat from scratching. So do go out there and look for such thing. It has no hard to both your furtiture and cat.

First treat the furniture she's scratching with lemon or orange oil (cats hate the smell of citrus), then place the scratching post close to the furniture and then move her to the post whenever she scratches your chair. Scratch it yourself the first few times to give her the right idea. If that does not work spray her with water when she's not looking at you so she conects the punishment with the chair and not you. Monitor her in that room if at all possible, close off the room when you're not around. Or wrap the chair with bubble wrap if she does not chew it.

a million. bypass to the puppy shop, get some cat nip spray, and spray the placed up. 2. placed the scratching placed up close to the fixtures he scratches the main. 3. teach him what the placed up is for-take his paws, press his claws out, and use them to scratch the placed up. 4. shop a particular eye on him and every time you seize him scratching the fixtures do no longer fuss, basically pass him to the placed up and inspire him to scratch there. beneficial reinforcement (showing him what's right) is in many situations plenty extra helpful than damaging reinforcement (punishment), incredibly with cats. different thoughts which may be used as properly are to get some repellant spray for the fixtures and/or to get rubberized concepts for his claws. the downside to those is that usually the spray smells humorous to human beings and that the concepts would be no longer elementary to carry on with and could be replaced oftentimes.

You might try taking her to the scratching post, placing her front paws on it and pet the full length of her back with long strokes and firm pressure. I've read in one of those kitten kits you get from the vet, that it should stimulate the clawing action your looking for. Don't know if it works or not though.

the catnip in the post may have gotten too old to interest her. You can purchase some catnip and rub it on the post or place it inside the post if possible. I havent tried the nail tips but I have heard they work pretty well. you need to replace them as they lose the tips to remain affective. you can also try clipping the tips of her nails if she will let you. you can also try to teach her by taking her paws gently and showing her how to scratch the post.

Well I have a cat to and she attacks the carpet. So my grandmother found out a trick, the trick is to get some red pepper flakes and place them in a small shot glass and when your cat gets a whiff of that she will leave the carpet alone!

I just called my kitty over to it and I pretended to claw it, and she did too. Didn't take that long to teach her.

Good luck teaching kitty anything that kitty doesn't want to do, but that;s why we love them right? Independent to a fault, gosh I wish was a kitty.
