Guys (and grls): How do u like a girl to talk to you, to keep you interested??

okay there is this guy, a grade older than me, a senior. We recently started talking this week and i am SPRUNG. He gives me odd signals. Like a few times in the past he said he'll hit me up later and never did or barely IMed me first, stuff like that. But when we would talk he seems very affectionate and interested in me. I am clueless. Guys, how do you like girls talking to you? How can i keep our conversations FREsh and so tat HE WANTS to talk to me? Tips? help? advice???
