a low cost clinic does not mean lower cost care. Have had both of my cats fixed that way, they tend to offer the services at a more reasonable rate to help get the number of unwanted or unexpected pets to decline. Way to go on wanting to get that done!

The ASPCA and/or Rescue Shelters usually work with the local veterinarians in their communities to help provide low-cost, and safe neutering / spaying of pets. I suggest that you call your local rescue shelter and ask about their spaying and neutering programs, along with a list of their veterinarians. I had my dog spayed with the help of the ASPCA. They gave me a voucher and set up the appointment with a certified vet. The procedure went smoothly, with no complications.

Your local no-kill shelter, might have a list of good cheap vet clinics. Most would be okay anyway, but go check them out first, you should be able to get a list of questions you should ask from the SPCA or your again your local no-kill shelter.

Yes, I have had a cat neutered at one of them, they use real doctors of course. They are providing a service, there are some people who cannot afford to have their pets fixed at vet prices. I gave a donation when I picked Kenny up, so that someone else could have their cat fixed too.

Yes, go to the nearest SPCA and tell them you rescued the cat and want to keep it. Here in California in the Bay Area there is a service called Ferral Friends and its between $10-$40 for them to be fixed and given their shots.
I was very upset with my vet for charging me two office visits when I brought both of them at the same time.

Sure. I've never had a problem with the cheap clinics that only do spaying and neutering. Just make sure they look clean. :)

the cheaper ones do it because they know its worse to have a cat having heaps of babies, so they like to help out the poorer, or not even poorer people.
they dont go any cheaper on the drugs or anything, i say go for it.
