We all hate the call at dinner time or whenever.Trying to get you to refinance or beg for money for whatever. Usually I hang up. What is the best way to handle these calls? Sometimes I get pissed and hold them on the line waiting, but my friend said they get more time so more money for them. They like that. Then sometimes I may get sharp or a bit rude. I know they're only doing their job. Can they have your number then write it on bathroom walls all over town? Can they get really evil? Just curious on how others deal with them, over and over again. I am on the "do not call" list but...

Yes I have earned a living by doing cold call retail sales once or twice. If someone simply says that they are on the do not call list, or request to be on it, telemarketers have to honor that request, and usually appologize for bothering you, and the mix up. My boss told me to always take down the phone number from the person on the line, and bring it to his attention, that this number was a do not call number-he would then modify his list of call numbers.
Guess I'm terrible, but I hang up too, sometimes. On the other end of it, I'd rather someone hang up, than let me go on for 20 min, about something they have no interest in. But then, I only got paid when I made a sale, never for how long I kept the party on line.

I've found that the best way to deal with them is make it fun for yourself, or just hang up if you're strictly not in the mood. If you can think of a good joke to pull on them it's fine too. They should only get p'd off if they have no sense of humor.

Go to the link below to put your number on the do not call list.
AND/OR
Tell the caller that you are not interested and to remove your name from their list. IF they continue to call you, you can take them to small claims court. Make sure you let them know that you know this law.
